GUIDING PRINCIPALS

How I approach my work

Make it understandable.
You shouldn’t need a technical background to understand what’s happening with your website or systems. I’ll explain things clearly and answer questions without making you feel like you should already know the answer.

Build what actually makes sense.

I’m not interested in adding tools, features, or complexity just because we can. Sometimes the right solution is custom development. Sometimes it’s fixing the thing you already have.

Leave you more confident.

You should feel comfortable with the technology you use to run your business. I’ll make sure you understand how things work and have the information you need to move forward.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

The developer behind Kovalent Studios

Kayla Otterness, founder and developer of Kovalent Studios

Kayla Otterness, Founder

I spent years building applications, integrations, and internal tools as a software developer at Best Buy and later as a NetSuite consultant. Before that, I worked in chemistry and quality systems, where I developed an appreciation for organization, problem solving, and the importance of getting the details right.

I started Kovalent Studios to help people navigate technology with confidence. I enjoy figuring things out, making complicated things feel less overwhelming, and helping others understand the tools they rely on.

People often tell me that I’m approachable, organized, and easy to work with. My goal isn’t just to deliver a finished product, but to provide support people can trust and leave them feeling more confident than when we started.

Name

A little tidbit for those who made it this far...

Kovalent Studios gets its name from a callback to my love of chemistry. In chemistry, a covalent bond is one of the strongest types of connections, where two atoms share electrons. To me, it represents collaboration and the relationships that make meaningful work possible.
